Bali Is Busier Than Ever, But the Empty Beaches Still Exist
Anyone who has walked the main strip in Seminyak or tried to find a sun lounger in Kuta recently knows that Bali's popularity is not slowing down. Yet the island is large enough, and varied enough, that genuinely quiet beaches remain within reach for travelers prepared to go a little further. Nusa Lembongan: The Quieter Sister Island

Jungutbatu Beach is the island's best-known stretch of sand and offers clear views back toward the Bali mainland. During low season, or even at the right hour of the day, it can be almost deserted. The most rewarding find on Nusa Lembongan is Pantai Pasir Putih, or White Sand Beach, located at the island's northern tip. It is the kind of place that still looks like a postcard from an earlier era of travel.
Pemuteran: A UN-Recognized Village on Bali's North Coast
Situated in Buleleng Regency on Bali's north coast, Pemuteran is a small coastal fishing village that has spent the past decade investing in marine conservation. In late 2025, it received a World's Best Tourism Village Award from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, placing it on a list that previously included Penglipuran Village.
That comparison is instructive. Penglipuran now receives thousands of visitors per day following its own award recognition. Pemuteran is at an earlier stage of that curve, which makes 2026 and 2027 a particularly good window to visit. The village offers wide, uncrowded beaches, rolling hills, and strong snorkeling and diving conditions. It also serves as a practical base for day trips into West Bali National Park. Sumberkima Beach, nearby, is worth adding to any itinerary in the area.
Candidasa and the Karangasem Regency Coast
On the opposite side of the island, the eastern Karangasem Regency coastline around Candidasa offers a different kind of quiet. The area has well-regarded resort accommodation, access to white-sand beaches, and views of sacred Mount Agung. It is a less-discussed part of Bali that rewards travelers who are willing to base themselves outside the main tourist corridor.
Why It Matters for Hosts
Independent operators in Pemuteran, Nusa Lembongan, and Candidasa are in a strong position right now. Pemuteran in particular is at a tipping point: international recognition has arrived, but mass tourism has not yet followed. Hosts in these areas should document their proximity to natural assets (marine conservation sites, national park access, volcano views) clearly in their listings and communications. Travelers searching for crowd-free Bali experiences are actively looking for exactly what these destinations offer, and that search behavior is only likely to increase as the main resort areas grow more congested.
