PLN Bali Commits to Keeping Customers Informed During Power Outages
For anyone who has sat through a Bali power outage with no idea when the lights will return, the frustration is familiar. PLN Bali's Distribution Regulatory Implementation Unit (UP2D) is now directly addressing that frustration, not by promising fewer outages, but by committing to far better communication when they happen.
Reporting first by NusaBali and covered on September 9, 2026 by the Bali Update Editorial Team at Bali Discovery, the story centers on a service overhaul being rolled out through PLN's Command Center.
What the New System Actually Changes
Under the strengthened approach, the process now has three defined contact points. When a customer first reports an outage, a Command Center officer confirms receipt of the report. If the estimated restoration time exceeds one hour, the customer receives regular progress updates throughout the repair. Once work is complete, officers follow up to confirm that power has been restored.
PLN UP2D Bali Manager Petrus Irwan Ichwansaputra described the intent plainly: restoration speed matters, but so does certainty. He specifically cited odalan (traditional anniversary ceremonies), small and medium businesses, and community services as contexts where an unannounced outage causes real disruption beyond mere inconvenience.
The program runs under the name "Command Center from the Heart" as part of the Yantek Campus Volume 2 initiative. It covers not only communication skills but also occupational safety standards and the use of technology to document outages more systematically.
The Role of APKT Mobile
To support better record-keeping, PLN is expanding use of APKT Mobile, an application for logging outage reports in real time. The richer data this generates is intended to help the utility identify patterns in outage frequency and restoration times, giving planners a clearer picture of where infrastructure attention is most needed.
Context: Why Communication Has Lagged
Petrus acknowledged that each outage carries a different weight depending on who is affected. A village preparing ceremonial offerings, a food stall mid-service, a school running an online exam, or a health facility all face distinct consequences from the same blackout. The new training asks officers to recognize that context rather than treat every report as a generic technical ticket.
Occupational safety also features in the upgrade. PLN is communicating procedural changes to field staff to ensure that faster response does not come at the cost of safe working practices.
Why It Matters for Hosts
Independent accommodation and hospitality operators in Bali rely on electricity for everything from guest Wi-Fi and kitchen equipment to point-of-sale systems and water pumps. The practical takeaway here is straightforward: save the PLN Command Center contact details and make sure your property is registered so officers can reach you directly during an outage. If your operation sits in an area with a history of longer outages, the new policy of regular updates during faults lasting more than one hour means you should expect proactive contact rather than having to chase information. It is also worth briefing guests at check-in about how outages are handled locally, so that uncertainty does not become a negative review.
